the Moti gazette
As salaam `alaykum!
The Moti Gazette is usually authored by the ladies of fifth grade. This week, I have chosen to write it myself due to several teacher announcements I would like to make. Insha`Allah the next issue of The Moti Gazette will be in its usual format.
- Ms. Ahmed
Science
Our latest experiment was called “The Vitamin C Test.” We used a chemical called indophenol to detect the presence of vitamin C in different varieties of fresh squeezed juices.
Social Studies
The test on Unit One was today! The girls have been studying hard with Ms. Hoda. They played a fun review game yesterday. Insha`Allah they all did well.
Qur`an
Masha`Allah the students of third, fourth, and fifth grades have memorized a total of 100 surahs altogether! In celebration of this great achievement, Ms. Quadri prepared a delicious lunch for grade 3-5. May Allah reward the stusents for their continued efforts and Ms. Quadri for her encouragement and dedication!
Math
We’ve started solving more complex algebraic equations, including two-step equations. The class is getting better at writing equations to fit word problems. The chapter 4 test will be next Friday, January 18th.
Tech Ed.
Yesterday, the girls had a test in tech ed. about how to do basic functions such as saving and transferring files. They will be moving on to more complex computer skills.
Averroes Souk
A notice is being sent home today with each 5th grader about the Averroes Souk. Please read through it carefully and email either me or Mrs. Ali if you have any questions.
School Uniform
All students are expected to be in full and proper school uniform on a daily basis. I have attached page 13 from the Parent-Student Handbook which outlines what is included in the uniform. Common problems I have seen lately are: incorrect uniform shirts, incorrect P.E. uniform shirts, multi-colored socks, brown shoes, and nail polish.
One’s wudu is not complete when wearing nail polish, which causes a problem during salah time and Qur`an class. Students wearing nail polish will be asked to go to the school office and use nail polish remover. If you have any questions about the school uniform, please contact the school and speak with Mrs. Ali.
Snacktime
Snacks eaten during snack time should be healthy. Chips, cookies, and candy bars are fine to pack as a dessert in your child’s lunch; however, they should not be given as a snack. The purpose of snack time is to energize your child halfway through the morning. Fruits, veggies, and lowfat yogurt are a few healthy options that boost energy and fill up stomachs. Please help your child make healthy choices for morning snack time.
